Dear PIE Members,

In March 2013 PIE will turn nine years old! After holding over 74 events on diverse topics and formats, we have firmly established the Club with much experience behind us. We are pleased to say it shows great promise for the future, and our energy for organizing and participating in new events has not waned. To the contrary, our membership is growing and our informal program of events has not decreased.
Encouraged by this success, the Board would like to continue to help the Club further develop. We understand that our role is as facilitators and coordinators, and we do not want to impose our ideas. This is why we would like to ask for your input on the statements below. Please send any comments to the founding members who currently make up the Club’s acting board members. Their names and e-mails are listed below

  1. Club goals:
    • We want to organize events to broaden our members’ knowledge about a variety of subjects and to create the opportunity for those who wish to share their knowledge and experience to do so.
    • We also want to invite artists to present small theatre performances, cabaret, or chamber music. Their talents will provide us with enjoyable artistic experiences.
    • Another important goal is to simply create opportunities to socialize over light refreshment, sweets, and a glass of wine.
  2. How we operate:
    • Our Club is and will remain informal; we all will try to preserve its friendly and hospitable atmosphere. We want our Club to be an open society of friends, and not a closed clique.
    • We will try to start our events on time. To avoid delay and ensure we start at the set time, the hosts should be prepared to let the guests in 30 min. before the presentation begins.
    • Based on our experience, the most effective presentation time is one hour; in exceptional cases this may be extended to an hour and a half. We appeal to all future presenters not to go over this time limit.
    • We welcome proposals for future events, both active and receptive (as in “I want to give a presentation on…,” or “My friend can give a talk on…,” or. “I would like to learn more about…”). The date, place and details of each event is set by the Board together with the presenter.
    • We are in touch with other Polonia clubs in Southern California, such as the Helena Modrzejewska Club of Los Angeles and the Polish Artistic Salon of San Diego (PSASD). Both have been around for several years, have organized over a hundred events and have many contacts with artists, journalists and public figures both in Poland and in the Diaspora. We would like to invite some of their guests to be our presenters if practical.
  3. Hosting Club events:
    • We invite you to open your house to a Club event. An event should not take place in the presenter’s house unless there are important reasons (for instance the amount or character of “props” necessary for the presentation).
    • The hosts provide the place, coffee, tea, etc., but they are not obliged to provide food.
    • We appeal to our members to bring red wine. Based on our experience, it is often consumed, albeit not without moderation, in quantities compelling hosts to open ever new “vats” that are possibly intended for other occasions (despite the fact this is not the Wedding at Cana).

All comments and suggestions regarding these matters should be directed to the Club's board at the following e_mail address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
