Marian Opania zadebiutował już w czasie studiów na PWST w Warszawie w filnie „Miłość dwudziestolatków”. Po ukończeniu Szkoły Teatralnej rozpoczął pracę na scenie. Przez trzynaście lat związany był z Teatrem Klasycznym w Warszawie. W 1970 roku za role w filmach „Skok” i „Sąsiedzi” otrzymał nagrodę im. Zbyszka Cybulskiego dla najlepszego młodego aktora.
